Mac OS X - Leopard is fast
31/10/07 15:00
The newest version of Mac OS X called Leopard is faster
than Tiger on my Dual G5. I'm used to operating systems
getting slower and bigger but this version is faster at
browsing (Camino is much faster) and the Finder and
Mail work much, much better.
I don't like the way the dock looks, but there's a tweak in the terminal that fixes that.

Roland Juno-G - like the Roland Synthesizers of the 90's!
04/09/07 22:59
I used to program a lot of Roland Keyboards in the
90's. I lost touch with the Roland line until I played
the Juno-G recently. Here is a very low
cost keyboard with lots of functionality built in.
The best part is that it's only 14 pounds so you
can hold it in one hand. I was very, very
surprised to see that the sound engine; despite
being a "Fantom-type engine" is very much like the
XP-80 or JV series keyboards. Not much has changed
in a decade. I also found the the sounds to be
very reminiscent of past Roland keyboards.
After having gotten used to wheels, the Roland lever is almost like a throwback and things like modulation for organ sounds are impossible to do with the lever since you have to hold the lever in place to get the leslie going. The D-beam takes the place, but it's not as simple as ....a simple wheel.
The sounds on the Juno-G are great. The synthesizer sounds are very good. I am finding a bunch of great lead sounds in the machine. The acoustic sounds are ok, rather bad compared to my S90ES, but this thing is over a $1000 less. The MIDI is very flexible and the onboard drums/sequencer is fun!
Anyway, it's a great keyboard and I will have fun playing it on the gigs! I will be using an Emu Xboard with it as a psuedo 2nd keyboard.
Update: buy an SRX-11 for $200 more and adjust the EQ and you will have a decent piano sound. Most of the Roland sounds are way too bright IMO, but tweaks to the patches will fix this.

Tim Enos
29/08/07 22:22
Tim Enos was an interesting man. He
was an actor and also played the bass. He hired a
lot of musicians and we would often play on the
streets for tips. I remember him as a vibrant, fun
person. We didn't always have the glamorous gigs,
but I remember some of them very well. Rest in
peace Tim.
Bill Hazzard is still playing!
29/08/07 22:20
I see my friend Bill Hazzard is still smoking on vibes!
He was a great influence on many of us - often inviting
us to his house to jam and record. He had a grand
piano, vibes and drums all set up. All you had to do is
play and have a good time.
Check out his CD!
